Veraison, color and ripening of the grapes.

Our winemaker has been busy! Here he is checking our 2020 Petite Sirah, which has since been moved to bottles, to better enhance those robust fruit flavors.

These beautiful clusters signify hope and promise for a great 2021 vintage.

In the Vineyard

Mustard weed - nature's cover crop.

We've started a replanting program for our Pinot Noir vines. We've pulled the old vines, but due to the severe drought here in Mendocino County, the planting of the new vines has been delayed.

The vines have awakened from their winter dormancy and are showing signs of vitality and promise.

Imagine how many glasses of wine this gnarly old vine has blessed us with. 🍷

Remember that cute little fur baby we introduced last fall?

Well, little Miss Margot is now a bouncing and bounding 65 pounds.

Here she is with her cousin Leia, living their best lives, running amuck in the vineyards.

A great place for dogs, and kids, to grow up.

Veraison is arguably the most important moment in a grape’s annual lifecycle, when berries begin to ripen and mature. The darkening of the grape skin actually protects them from sun damage and other stresses as they move into the final, and most critical, stage of development.

COVID-19

At this time, we feel our annual Harvest Party is looking very unlikely.

If things change dramatically, we will surely get the word out.

Be Well, Stay Safe.

HARVEST RECAP

Our Chardonnay and Pinot Noir crop were both average to above average. Due to and early frost in the first week of October (24 degrees!), we did encounter some damage to the Petite Sirah.

Pictured (left) is Salvador starting pruning with the Chardonnay.

Our first Harvest Party was a big success! Lots of wine was drank, lots of polenta was eaten, and of course, lots of fun was had!

Veraison - Onset of ripening

Veraison - Onset of ripening

During this season, we are drip irrigating every 7 days, and as you can see in the far right photo above, we're starting to see color in the reds!

The center photo shows how the vines were "thinned" to help the grapes mature by creating more sunlight and airflow to the fruit.

We will start getting ready for harvest in a few weeks! Oh, and speaking of harvest... (see below!!!)

Save the Date!

We are excited to announce our first Annual Harvest Party!

A Little Family History...

66313819_2392661147465991_2353339119804874752_n.jpg

Our family is from the Piedmont region, meaning “at the foot of the mountain” and borders both France and Switzerland. The region is known for its wine, auto manufacturing (Fiat), fall truffles, mountain ski resorts and one of Italy’s greatest lakes, Lake Maggiore.

66044256_2393931864005586_5029988564310425600_n.jpg

The other side of our family comes from The Hague (Den Haag), which is one of the most extraordinary cities in Holland. Not just because it is the government city, but also because of its many monuments, historic districts and its location near the beautiful North Sea coastline. The Hague is also known as 'the Royal City by the Sea’. Scheveningen, the best known seaside resort on the Dutch coast is also in this province. Our Dutch roots are responsible for our Love of butter, sweets and hot tea.

It is with much sadness we announce the passing of our father, Pete Barra. He lived his 90 years achieving more than he ever imagined. He was a hardworking visionary and devoted family man. He and Mom have left behind a beautiful legacy on East Road in Redwood Valley, which we will continue to build upon. He will be greatly missed by many.
